Mommy, Uncle Takuma and Bah-ba came to the appointment with me. I'm not sure if it's because I'm older and bigger now...but I REALLY hate going to the hospital...because I KNOW what I'm there for. Isn't it weird? I used to not care about where mommy took me. I figured I could trust her...maybe take me somewhere fun or something.

I wonder where they're taking me...
But NOOOOOOOO. There's no fooling me now! I knew from the moment we stepped off the elevator and into the lobby of all the specialty clinics that we weren't at the toy store. When the nurse called me in, mommy stripped me down to my diaper...and then nothing! They weigh and measure my length and head circumference every time I come here to make sure I was growing. I would not have it! I hate the cold scale that they put me on and now that I'm bigger and stronger, I try to pull myself up and get off that thing! If mommy won't help me, I'll do it myself!!
After much struggle on the scale, my measurements were:
* height: 28 in
* weight: 21lbs 8ozs
Anyhow, after that we went into the exam room and waited for the doctor. I get really nervous at these appointments so mommy is the only one who can console me during these times. Dr. Idries came in and quickly examined me, asked mommy questions about how well I'm doing with my milestones, and determined that I was in perfectly GREAT condition. Dr. Idries went over my lab results with mommy. Mommy's main concern was my bilirubin level, which used to be REALLY high. It was what caused my skin to be jaundiced. My last total bilirubin level was at 12.6 and this last result was ... (drumroll please) ...
0.5 !!!!!!
Woohoo! No wonder people have been noticing my light skin! My golden browns! ^_^ Everything else from my labs were normal too. Liver function, kidney, blood cells...EVERYTHING! So guess what? Dr. Idries gave mommy the green light to give me regular milk (no more formula) and any kind of food! ANYTHING! Oh man! But knowing mommy and daddy, they won't feed me any junk food, soda or juices...which is totally fine with me. Bring on the food! I'm ready to grow more!! Currently, I enjoy my potato & tofu miso soup that Bah-ba makes for me...it's SOOOOO yummy!!!
So at the end of this appointment, Dr. Idries let me know that since I'm functioning normally, there is no need for me to see her anymore. "You're a normal baby," she says to me. NO MORE GI APPOINTMENTS!! I'm not sure if it was the single comment by Dr. Idries or something else that triggered my tearduct, but I was crying and a little sad. I am gonna miss this place. Even though it's a great thing that I won't have to come back, CHOC is where A LOT happened in the past year....
... my transfer from Hoag
... my PDA ligation
... my 2 stomach surgeries
... my laser eye surgery for R.O.P.
... my first bath
... my first crib
... my first poop
... my home for 149 straight days (after being at Hoag for 10 days...)
And the list goes on! But amazingly, I got through it all. I know that I will visit my doctors and nurses over the years. Mommy and daddy will make sure I do. And I am thankful for all that they have done for me. I can't thank them enough. These doctors are amazing, I tell you! Just look at me! They did an awesome job! Medical technology is just amazing these days and I hope that I can give back one day to show my appreciation for the dedicated staff in the NICU department.
