I had my first visit to EDAC today for my 6 month evaluation. The Early Development Assessment Center (EDAC) at CHOC provides assessments for at-risk infants like myself. Since I was born so early, I am at risk for developmental delays and the county and state want to make sure that I'm receiving the information and care that I need to make sure I hit my milestones.
I met with a whole bunch of people today who were a part of the EDAC team: RN, occupational therapist, physical therapist, neonatologist, dietician, and social worker. After a few long hours of questions and activities, my assessment was done. Boy was I pooped! Good news is, I seem to be doing pretty well for my adjusted age. Some of the "tests" showed that I was just a tad behind in my gross motor skills, but all in all, they said I was doing great for my age considering how much I had gone through! (Everyone seemed to be amazed at how big I was...because the last time they remember me, I was in the NICU, inside the incubator!) I just have to continue working hard with my physical therapist and mommy at home and I should be okay. The team will be following up with me for the next few years. My next evaluation is set for mid-July. I wonder what they're gonna do with me then???
Since I was in the area, mommy decided to call up to the NICU at the hospital to see if any of my nurses were working. Luckily, I got to see Deb this time! I haven't seen her since I was discharged from the hospital on 7/28/08! She was so happy to see me...and I was excited too! She was surprised at how big I had gotten...she could barely hold me!! I will make sure to visit her and the other nurses as often as I can!
