Happy Boys' Day!
Jihji & Bahba bought me my second koinobori flag to celebrate boys' day today! But this time, the carp-shaped flags were WAY bigger than me! (Last year, I had a small one that they attached to my isolette when I was still in the NICU.) Thanks for my cool koinobori, Jihji & Bahba!

Until recently, Boys' Day was celebrated on the 5th day of May while Girls' Day (Hinamatsuri) was celebrated on the 3rd of March. In 1948, the Japanese government decreed May 5th to be a national holiday to celebrate the happiness of all children and to express gratitude toward mothers. It was renamed "Kodomo no Hi" (Children's Day).
Koinobori, or carp-shaped flags are raised in celebration of each boy or child. A Kintaro doll or a kabuto (Japanese military helmet) may also be displayed to symbolize a strong and healthy boy.
