I'm worried about mommy...

Yesterday was daddy's birthday. And today is Valentine's Day.

But mommy was admitted to the hospital because she was having some complications. She started bleeding this morning and was having menstrual-like cramps. (I promise, I wasn't doing anything to mommy in here...) Mommy was confused and packed a few things into her duffle bag. She had no idea how long she'd be in the hospital for and what would happen. Lola Tes drove mommy to Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach right away.

The routine ultrasound on 2/11/08 revealed that I was doing really well at 23 gestational weeks. Good length, good size, great heartbeat. What was really scary was that mommy was ordered to go on bedrest. Not just regular bedrest...but STRICT bedrest. No walking, no lifting, no going up and down the stairs. Her doctor told her to call her boss the next day to let her know that she would be on bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy! (Which was going to be about 4 whole months!) Boy, was mommy frustrated! She had NO idea what was going on! I tried to calm her down by doing a few flutter kicks to distract her...but it only seemed to make her more upset. Mommy wanted me to calm down because if I didn't behave, they would have to deliver me early. And THAT would NOT be good.

Although I was doing good, mommy's recent ultrasound showed that her cervix was shortened and was slightly dilated already. The news wasn't good...because at this point in her pregnancy, she's not supposed to be dilated. Something about an "incompetent cervix" or "shortened cervix". Doctor said that there are no known causes for it. One minute, a mommy could be fine but then not so good the next minute. Mommy was so sad and confused because she didn't know what could've caused such a thing. Usually, a cervical cerclage could be performed to prevent preterm labor, but since mommy was already past 16 weeks (when they usually perform the surgery), nothing else could be done.

Mommy was doing so well with me in her belly up until this point. She was in the best condition ever. She's never smoked in her life. She absolutely hates alcohol. And she made sure that no one around her smoked because that could be REALLY bad for me. She made sure she was eating healthy food and was sleeping enough to get both of us a good night's rest. Daddy took really good care of her too. Maybe she was feeling a little stressed out from work. I dunno. She was throwing up EVERY morning before leaving with daddy for work. (I would hear the toilet flush a lot during mommy's 2nd trimester...)

Preterm delivery is definitely NOT something a mommy wants to go through. Ever. Especially not at 23 weeks.

I hope mommy feels better...
